Things that bother me in my community

Things that bother me in my community

Things that really do irritate me in our society is the fact that people these days rely on technology too much. The amount of people spending time indoor largely increase compare to ten years ago. This doesn't benefit our society in any way. It's just hurting ourselves. For example, with the technology of GPS, less and less people use map. And young children these days don't even know how to use a map correctly. All they need is to type in the location they want on their phone or devices, and it automatically takes you there. This might cause the paper map to be eventually be getting rid off.

Technology not only can hurt us mentally, but also physically. People spending too much time indoor, which cause the lack of exercise and leads to health problem. More and more young kids starting to wear glasses at a very young age. The radiation from device can slowly damage our eye sign, and slowly leads to a larger problem, such as cancer.

Having technology to help for upgrading our society can be a great thing, but there should be a limit of usage. We need to encourage young children to go outdoor more. Exercise and even taking a walk outside of the house can mean a lot. This can help to benefit and reduce the amount of young kids with bad eye sign and having a brighter future with a greater eyes. I would hope years later, there could be an invention that might helps to improve our eye sign or stop the hurting of our eye sign through technology.

Scarlett Johansson: Back in Stride by Jason Gay

The article of Scarlett Johansson was being done interviewed by Jason Gay, who is also known for interviewing Rihanna. Gay started off the article with an great opening and strong attention grabber. He jumps into the topic of Johansson cutting onions, which is both humanistic and awkward at the same time. Gay focused on the how Johannsson was cutting an onion on a show, and her red-carpet looks.

Gay points out a lot of details from his interview, even little tiny action that Johannsson had done or said that might seem to be interesting. In the article, Gay point out how Johannsson, "one of the most glamorous actresses alive is pink-eyed and sniffling and looking like she's been asked to put a cat to sleep." Gay used metaphor in the article to compare exact action of Johansson. The article did started from the middle of action, it made it interesting to read. Once you read about how Johannsson was red-eyed, you would want to read along to see what happened. Jason Gay done a great job on both interviewing and publishing this article.

Creating Portraits with Words

Capitalist Pig
Brandon Stanton

Brandon Stanton, our research or story writer met a old man sitting on the bench of Union Square in New York City. Brandon saw how this old man mismatched his cloth so he went up to the old man and ask for permission to take a photo of him. The old man rejected Brandon, but he asked Brandon if he mind to sit down and have a conversation. That's when the old man's storytelling begins. In Brandon Stanton's website of the Humans of New York, he focused the subject mainly on how the old man talked to him about the worse of Capitalism. How American people are full with the love of money and fame. Brandon point out the hate of Capitalism by the old man, and the way how the old man with a anger tone explain his reasoning.

Brandon Stanton point out some direct quote from the old man saying. "YouAmericans are sick. I listen to you and I realize how much I hate this damn country with your damn love of money and love of capitalism. You people make me so mad. And he was mad. He was riled up real good. (Didn’t he say he was in banking?) It would appear that I was falling victim to a guerilla hippie attack."  I think this usage of the direct quote is effective, because Brandon wants to show the reader how exactly mad the old man was, from word to word, we can feel the hatred of the old man. I do like this story, the story is pretty interesting and surprising. This is my first time hearing story of people's hate for capitalism. I find it interesting to read. Brandon Stanton did a great job of writing out this story and sharing it with the public.
